Follow Uroš and Jernej on Calvados
On Monday 26th of June at 12:00, Calvados regatta – Course 1 begins.
The video live stream starts at 11:15.
Who is Jernej, you ask?
ENG: I’m Jernej Drofenik. I started sailing on Optimist, where I also competed with Uroš. 😀 I’ve been fascinated by the short-handed sailing world in recent years. Last year I took part in the double mixed offshore world championship regatta with Figaro 3 sailboats, which was held in Portorož.
But I wanted to see what the smallest sailing boats that sail across the Atlantic look like and what kind of rocket Uroš will use on this journey.

GO, ASHIKA II!!!!!
Uroš and Jernej are now in an excellent position for the final approach to the finish line. Currently second overall and in class, they took the route further out from the land as Jure (their meteo expert) suggested. They were counting on the breeze lasting longer out there, and it looks like the strategy is working so far.

Uroš and Jernej started well and are currently 2nd. Racing upwind seems to suit them.

The first course makes a bridge between the tip of Finisterre and the department of Calvados. The strategic stakes are numerous, and the twists and turns are frequent in these areas, which are among the strongest currents in Europe.
It is a magnificent, very technical course that will start to challenge the sailors as soon as 6 hours after the departure from Douarnenez. They will have to negotiate the Passage du Four, then leave the Channel Islands to starboard, before entering the Raz Blanchard with its strong currents, then that of Barfleur to arrive in Deauville. See you on July 26 for the start of race 1 from Douarnenez.
